Pardew Rubbishes Enrique Replacement Rumour

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has rubbished rumours linking the club with a move for AC Milan left-back Taye Taiwo.

Newcastle are still in search of a left-back to replace Jose Enrique who left the club in the summer to join Liverpool. PSV Eidhoven defender Erik Pieters was expected to be joining the club in January, but PSV have now categorically denied that Pieters will be leaving the club.

That led to rumours that Newcastle were ready to make a move for the Nigerian international Taiwo. The 26 year-old has struggled to settle in Milan this season and he is apparently available in January.

But Alan Pardew has denied the rumours linking the Toon with a move for Taiwo. Pardew said: ”There’s no interest, I don’t know anything more about that.”

Newcastle are in the hunt for several defensive reinforcements after Steven Taylor was ruled out for the rest if the season with an achilles injury.

Along with Taiwo, Newcastle have been linked with West Ham defender James Tomkins, Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho and FC Twente defender Douglas.
