‘Passes the David Sullivan test’ – West Ham fans react to forward links

West Ham supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side put up a spirited display against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday, but ultimately coming away from the Etihad Stadium with nothing.

David Moyes’ men went into their clash with the Citizens off the back of losing 4-0 to Everton in midweek, yet they deservedly took a lead into half time against Pep Guardiola’s side thanks to Angelo Ogbonna’s fine header a minute before the interval. However, the visitors were unable to survive the City onslaught as goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva completed the turnaround to inflict a ninth league defeat on the East London outfit, on a weekend which saw them slip to 19th in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many despondent Hammers fans in the Tavern this week, although several were buoyed by their team’s efforts against City on Sunday, even if they got scant reward for a decent performance.

In the meantime, there has been plenty for our resident West Ham supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports that they are interested in signing out-of-favour Arsenal forward Theo Walcott in January.

The 28-year-old has struggled for gametime under Arsene Wenger this season in making just four Premier League appearances for the Gunners, and as such his future has been plunged into doubt, especially with a World Cup to come in the summer.

And West Ham are one side reportedly keen on landing the Englishman, in news which has stimulated quite a mixed response from Hammers fans on Twitter…
