The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating their side’s win against Everton on Sunday…
The Blues looked very good against the Toffees, and whilst Ronald Koeman’s side wasn’t quite at it, nothing should be taken away from the performance of Antonio Conte’s side.
Indeed, every player in a blue shirt impressed, but as Pat Nevin has written for the official Chelsea website, there was one samba star that looked particularly good.
The player in question is, of course, Willian – who has been in deadly form so far this season. In the absence of Hazard, the Brazilian has been forced to step up, and as Nevin writes, he has done so fantastically.
Nevin notes: “I thought Willian was on a different planet on Saturday. The tricks and flicks were not just for show, the outrageous moments of skill had an end product as well”.
He continues: “The ease with which he was passing defenders was the equal of Eden at his best; in fact we really didn’t seem to miss our Belgian star with the quality that Pedro and Willian were providing”.
Though Willian often gets a lot of flak amongst fans, there can be no denying that he has really stepped up this season. The Brazilian has been at the centre of everything that Chelsea have done going forward, and he deserves a lot of credit for that.
Landlord’s Verdict
Willian is quickly emerging as one of Chelsea’s most important players once again. He stepped up when Chelsea needed him during their horrendous 2015/16 season, and he’s doing the same again at the start of this term.
Chelsea will want Hazard back, but with Willian performing this well, they have hardly missed him.
If he can stay on form like this all season, the Blues will have no problem producing a title challenge – especially when Hazard returns.
