Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern share Manuel Pellegrini’s prayers as the Mirror explains how desperate he is for James Milner to sign a new deal.
It is a tough situation for Pellegrini, because although he has been one of City’s most inspirational players this season, the boss still cannot guarantee him first-team football next season.
He is an unbelievable squad player for any team, which is matched by a great work rate, which makes it is no surprise that other clubs are keen to tie him down.
Also punters have highlighted his invaluable experience of English football, having played for Leeds, Newcastle and Aston Villa previously, with all clubs having a high expectation from the fans.
Liverpool are interested as they look to add strength and depth to their squad as they prepare for life without Steven Gerrard.
But Pellegrini will do all he can to keep hold of the 29-year-old who has contributed so much for the Citizens.
Pellegrini said: “All the people at the club who decide if James stays or goes want him to stay.
“But there are two parts to a contract and James must decide what he wants to do with his future.
“I have said from the beginning that I want him to stay. But even important players must fight for their place in the team.
“When you are at a big club, nobody has a guarantee that they will play because the competition is high.”
