The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting an announcement regarding the signing of Riyad Mahrez who is expected to join the club this summer.
If reports are to be believed then it seems Jorginho and Mahrez are Pep Guardiola’s prime summer targets, but no deal has been completed for either player just yet. It seems to be a matter of time before those deals are completed, however, City are not ruling out alternative options according to a report from Premium Sport HD.
The report claims that City are interested in signing Douglas Costa from Juventus this summer in a deal which would set them back a whopping £88 million. Having just completed a permanent deal to sign him from Bayern Munich, it’s no surprise that the Old Lady would demand such an extortionate transfer fee for his services.
Whilst the proposed deal is far from appealing from a financial perspective, it must be considered that the quality which Costa would add to City’s attack would make it completely worthwhile. Like Mahrez, Costa is a left-footed player who prefers to drift in from the right wing onto his favoured boot, but is also capable of operating in a number ten role or on the left-wing to equally devastating effect.
Costa has established a glowing reputation in recent years during his time with both Bayern Munich and Juventus and, with blistering pace at the forefront of his skillset, he would undoubtedly offer something different at the Etihad next season from the right-wing in particular.
Typical of any Brazilian attacker, Costa is the type of player who thrives off taking on his opposite number with flair and dazzling dribbling, and his quality in this regard would certainly get the Citizens faithful out of their seats next season.
At this moment in time it appears that Mahrez is the club’s number one attacking target, but if they hit a snag in negotiations or lose out on the Algerian to a rival club, Guardiola should make a move to reunite with his former colleague by bringing Costa to the Etihad Stadium in a sensational summer deal.
