Portsmouth: Ronan Curtis identified by Brentford as transfer target

Portsmouth’s Ronan Curtis has been identified as a potential summer signing for Championship side Brentford.

Brentford find themselves sat in a healthy play-off place in England’s second tier and, with a place in the Premier League a real possibility, Thomas Frank’s side are now looking to finish the season on a high.

Whilst a number of players in the Bees’ squad have impressed, arguably the top performer has been Said Benrahma, who has produced some excellent performances throughout the 2019/2020 campaign.

The Algerian attacker has netted 17 goals in 40 league games thus far and supplied nine assists in the process, which has led to interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

With Benrahma’s reported interest from Premier League outfits, speculation has now emerged linking Portsmouth player Curtis with a move to Griffin Park.

The 24-year-old winger has had a good season with Pompey, netting 11 goals and supplying five assists in 33 League One appearances, with that impressive form reportedly catching the eye of high-flying Brentford.

Curtis’ current deal at Fratton Park lasts until 2023, but with the club failing to gain promotion to the Championship, the Republic of Ireland international could look for a bigger challenge to test his ability.

It is quite a compliment to Curtis that he is being touted as a potential replacement for one of the Championship’s highest scorers so far this season.

Benrahma will likely move if Brentford fail to gain promotion, in which case the lure of Championship football could be too hard for Curtis to resist. Were that to happen, he would be quite a loss for Portsmouth.

Do you think Curtis has what it takes to perform in the Championship or Premier League? Let us know in the comments section below…
