There’s no way around it – Rangers have really stumbled over the last few weeks. The Gers started the season so well, but 2019 hasn’t been too kind to them – and having been knocked out of cup competitions and fallen behind in the race for the SPFL title, it’s not a particularly good time to be a Rangers fan.
In truth, most fans would likely be happy to admit that things haven’t gone as planned over the last few months, and that’s undeniably going to have an impact on our expectations ahead of next season.
To be honest, their form in recent months could have an overreaching impact on the team more broadly – and not all of it will be good.
With that said, here are some potential consequences to Rangers’ late season stumble…
Steven Gerrard Gets Signings
It’s clear that Steven Gerrard has improved Rangers, which is good for the Gers. They needed a manager to come in and make a big impact, and that’s exactly what he’s done. And that will work in his favour.
However, it’s also painfully obvious that are team isn’t on the same level as Celtic’s. If they’re going to catch them up, it’s clearly not about bringing in a new manager. It’s about bringing in new signings.
The manager has made some good signings since his arrival, like Connor Goldson, for example, so he must be trusted to continue to improve the side.
If Rangers had ended the season strongly, maybe the team may not have thought that investment was needed. Now, though, that’s clearly not the case.
Then, next season, he’ll have no excuses not to make a real charge for the SPFL title.
Alfredo Morelos Has A Decision
This is one that will really worry Rangers fans. Will Rangers’ failure to win silverware this season make Morelos leave the club?
Well, with interest from elsewhere, with Sky Sports previously reporting that Borussia Dortmund are considering a summer move, he’s certainly going to have something to think about.
His form, naturally, isn’t going to go unnoticed, and it may be easy for a team to turn his head given how poorly the last few weeks have gone.
At times, he’s carried the Gers over the line, and eventually, he’s going to get tired of doing that.
Joe Worrall Doesn’t Return
Joe Worrall has been a real hit this season. He’s looked good throughout his time at Ibrox, and though mistakes have been occasional, he’s a player that has grown significantly over the last 12 months.
In fact, he’s grown so much that he could be looking at interest from even bigger clubs than his parent team, Nottingham Forest.
Has he outgrown Rangers? Not exactly, but if the Gers had been more competitive this season, they’d have had a much better chance of hanging on to him.
In reality, however, he’s going to have no shortage of suitors, and so maybe a Rangers departure is more likely.
