It has been Leeds United supporters making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern so far this season, and they were once again in high spirits on Tuesday following their side’s most recent win.
Thomas Christiansen took over as head coach in the summer and inherited a team that finished seventh in the Championship last season, albeit they should have clinched a Play-Off spot but for a woeful run of form to end the campaign.
Leeds fans standing at the bar are well aware that the quality is there, and so it has proved this term as the Yorkshire giants have won five of their opening seven league matches, thus propelling them to the top for the first time in 13 years.
Christiansen’s men got the better of Birmingham City on Tuesday night to reach the summit, yet a recent report from Football Insider may slightly unnerve Leeds supporters with regard to a possible January transfer target.
And that’s because they report that the Championship side are going to face a battle to land highly-rated Orlando City forward Cyle Larin when the window reopens in the New Year.
The 22-year-old has scored 43 goals in just 85 games for the MLS side since his debut back in March 2015, 11 goals of which have come from his 24 appearances for the club this time round.
And having already earned 22 caps at senior level for Canada, the striker appears to be going from strength to strength, and reports earlier this week suggested that Leeds were interested in the 22-year-old.
And further reports today back that claim up, but also throw up a potential problem for the Yorkshire giants as several clubs around Europe are also thought to be monitoring Larin ahead of the winter window.
This could cause Leeds some issues in their pursuit of a forward who would certainly enhance their promotion credentials in the second half of the season.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been a dream start to the season for Leeds United, who reached the Championship summit for the first time since 2004 on Tuesday night after beating Birmingham City.
Yet they don’t seem to be resting on their laurels and already appear to be planning for the January window, with reports earlier in the week linking them with Orlando City’s Cyle Larin, scorer of 11 goals for the MLS side this term.
He could certainly be the striker they are looking for to replace Chris Wood, who left for Burnley last month, but they could also struggle in pursuit of the 22-year-old as many European sides are also thought to be interested, thus likely setting them back in their quest to land the Canada international.
