Estelle Denis is the 33 year old other half of French national team manager Raymond Domenech. Denis is a French TV presenter, and is famous in France for refusing to immediately accept the proposal for marriage Domenech made live on TV after France exited the European Championships in 2008.
After losing 2-0 to Italy, the now 58-year-old Domenech proposed to Denis, moments after the final whistle. Domenech has two children with the French TV personality, and despite being 25 years her senior, swatted aside questions regarding his professional future from journalists, insisting that:
“I have only one plan at the moment, it is to marry Estelle.
“And it is only this evening that I ask for her hand in marriage.
“I know it is difficult, but it is in moments like these that one has need of everyone, and I need her. “
However the intrigue surrounding Denis and Domenech’s relationship doesn’t end there. Whilst the English lion and all round cool dude John Terry has set about rocking the England camp by ‘allegedly’ having it right off with Wayne Bridge’s ex, Veronica something, the French had their own scandal before the World Cup in 2006.
As legend has it, former Monaco and Barcelona winger Ludovic Giuly wasn’t selected for the French national side for the World Cup in 2006 because he had been chatting up Domenech’s partner Estelle Denis a few years before. In his autobiography ‘Giuly by Giuly’, which I’m sure is about as stimulating as a Stoke City season ticket, Giuly sets the record staright. Apparently, in the Spring of 2004, a few months before Domenech was named as the French manager, Giuly sent Estelle Denis a few texts, and invited her to lunch in Paris. However, Giuly insists in his riveting autobiography that it was all completely innocent, and explained as such to ‘Raymo’:
“Listen, coach, I sent a text to your wife. I did not even know that you were a couple. But don’t worry, it was just professional. I prefer to say it to you directly, so that there are no misunderstandings.
“Without wanting to appear ill-mannered Estelle Denis doesn’t attract me. We never had a relationship, or wanted to have one.”
Oh that’s clever Giuly. Try it on with your bosses wife, get knocked back, and then say she’s ugly. No wonder Domenech took Ribery over you. Further, if you’re going to try it on via text, at least follow Ashley Cole’s example and send some risqué pictures. Had you given her a peek of the goods, she might have been up for it. Then again, maybe not.
Either way, here are some pictures of the lovely Estelle Denis, the woman in question…
