The Maurizio Sarri process is taking longer to bed in at Chelsea than expected. Indeed, despite a wonderful start to life in England for the Italian, the Blues have struggled to wholly convince of late and the club seriously need to buy a striker to truly kick on.

AC Milan's Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge though a desperate move to lure the presumably expensive Argentine striker away from the San Siro after being turfed out by Juventus has shades of Fernando Torres cast all over it.

The Spaniard's ill-advised £50m move to West London from Liverpool back in January 2011 stands out as one of the club's worst ever deals and pretty perfectly sums up the risk involved when buying players during the New Year sales.

Still, it's not all been doom and gloom for Chelsea during such a period. Indeed, we recently asked our Blues-mad readers to vote on their favourite ever January addition and one of their biggest legends of the Premier League era, perhaps unsurprisingly, came out on top.

Branislav Ivanovic, who won every major club honour available to him during a nine-year stint at the club picked up a narrow 28% of the vote, beating the likes of title-winners Nemanja Matic and Gary Cahill in the eyes of Chelsea supporters.

How they could do with another signing like him now.
