Many Everton fans have reached the end of their tether with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s recent poor performances and it seems his display against Manchester United has become the tipping point, with one supporter labelling him an ‘absolutely dreadful player’.
Sigurdsson joined former Swansea City teammate Fernando Llorente in departing the club in 2017, the year before their relegation. Indeed, while the Spaniard had little luck cementing himself in the starting eleven for Spurs despite reaching the Champions League final, Sigurdsson has actually sported the captain’s armband for Everton.
So where has it all gone wrong? The Icelandic midfielder initially flourished at the Merseyside club, finishing joint-top scorer for the Toffees last season with 13 league goals. This season, however, the former Tottenham man has just two goals to his name. Indeed, a league goal from Everton’s West Ham clash in October and a penalty scored against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup.
His performance yesterday against Manchester United is coming over heavy scrutiny, Sigurdsson completed just 1 of his 9 attempted crosses (per WhoScored). He is also being blamed for the disallowed goal due to his positioning following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shot by one fan below.
The Blues have only won three of their last ten Premier League fixtures and currently sit 11th in the table. But how much of that can Sigurdsson be expected to take accountability for? These fans are at the end of their tether with the 30-year-old’s lacklustre displays.

Sigurdsson is by far Everton’s weak link

That disallowed goal is a sickener every time I see it. However, the way Sigurdsson is happily just sitting down in the box in the 90th minute of the game at 1-1 sums the fella up. He should never ever wear the shirt again. We really need to get rid.
