According to Football Insider, Celtic could out-muscle Everton in the race to sign Stoke’s teen sensation Mohamed Sankoh.
The Blues have reportedly shown interest in snapping up the youngster but a recent update suggests Celtic could fancy themselves as Sankoh’s club of choice and Darren Bent believes the move would be ‘massive’.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former striker has commented on how big of a move it would be for the 16-year-old if the links to Celtic were to come to fruition. “You’re potentially talking about going to one of the biggest clubs in the world in Celtic,” Bent said. “Massive fanbase all over the world and potentially Champions League football.”
The Hoops certainly boast an impressive package to offer the youngster, who will be out of contract this summer and will cost no more than £300,000 in compensation fees.
Should Everton keep or sell Fabian Delph this summer?
Sankoh has taken the eye of several clubs this season after tallying three goals and three assists in the under-18 Youth League. The 16-year-old has also featured in the Premier League 2, also notching one assist during his time there (via Transfermarkt). Both the Toffees and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the Dutchman’s campaign, eager to strike a deal whilst the Potters are unable to offer a professional contract until Sankoh turns 17 in October.
Stoke are currently fighting a relegation battle from the Championship as they sit 17th in the table, just three points ahead of the bottom three. The lure of a Premier League club with a successful academy system like Everton could be enough to entice Sankoh, but Bent feels Celtic is the best way to go.
“That is a massive, massive carrot – you’re not going to a middle of the road club, you’re going to a massive, established club who plays in the Champions League most seasons,” the ex-Premier League striker continued. “If you can get that, why would you not go there?”
If Everton are serious about their interest in Sankoh, they must act fast to secure a deal or Bent’s prediction could potentially be the young forward’s preferred route.
