Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was involved in the England under-21s’ 5-1 win over Austria in a European Championships qualifier last night and a piece of footage showcasing the 19-year-old’s skill is doing the rounds on social media.
Both Foden and Manchester City shared a clip on their respective Twitter accounts @PhilFoden and @ManCity which shows the teenager retaining possession under pressure near the touchline and gliding his way through a narrow gap between two opponents before eventually being body-checked in unsubtle fashion by Austrian defender Marco Friedl, who was promptly booked.
It really is @PhilFoden’s world, we just live in it

Foden made his 12th appearance for the England under-21st last night and his third since the start of September, playing a full 90 minutes in each, even if he didn’t record any goal involvements against Austria after two goals and two assists across his previous couple of international games. He has played more than twice as many minutes for England’s under-21s as he has for Manchester City this season, with just 101 minutes of action at club level, and these City fans on Twitter called for Pep Guardiola to start the teenager against Crystal Palace on Saturday:
Please start him against palace pep
