Manchester City: Fans slate Gundogan over ‘shocking’ Liverpool performance

Following a devastating 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, Manchester City are looking to use the international break as a breather before their next huge game at home to Chelsea, but some supporters aren’t finished taking aim after the defeat.

After Jurgen Klopp’s side took an early two-goal advantage following some casual defending combined with clinical finishing, City had a mountain to climb. But before they could make their pressure count, Sadio Mane put the game beyond doubt with a goal soon after the start of the second half.

Despite having the Lion’s share of possession, controlling the midfield and crafting plenty of half chances, the Sky Blues could only manage a consolation ten minutes from the final whistle – with Bernardo Silva instinctively driving the ball past Alisson at his near post.

As a result, some supporters have taken particular aim at Ilkay Gundogan following the loss – slamming him for carelessly losing possession for Liverpool’s first goal.

Fans have also been debating his merit in the ‘number 8 role’ – prompting some to suggest he is levels above in the ‘6’ position.
