Plenty of Manchester City fans were discussing John Stones on Twitter after a post from @City_Chief on the social media platform, with many believing that the 25-year-old needs to do better.
Hopefully John Stones can find a way to fulfill his potential and grow into the player he can be. He has so much potential that just seems to be lacking consistency and execution. 💙 pic.twitter.com/HtxmSATUPU

The England defender, rated at £32.4m on TransferMarkt, came to the club from Everton in a £47.5m deal in 2016. He has gone on to make 129 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring five goals in that time, and has won eight trophies at the club, including two Premier League titles.
Unfortunately, Stones has suffered several injuries in his time at the Etihad Stadium, with various fitness issues ruling him out of 14 games this season. His first campaign at Manchester City saw him subjected to plentiful criticism (as per Goal.com) and, last year, Guardiola felt compelled to publicly insist that he had no intentions of selling the defender, despite transfer reports to the contrary (via The Telegraph).
Should Man City keep or sell Leroy Sane this summer?
The 25-year-old centre-back still has a lot to do to win over these City fans on Twitter, with one placing him “in the Otamendi category”, a reference to his Argentine team-mate who has been slammed by several pundits over some performances this season:
It’s been 4 years , he needs to leave city. It will be better for the club as well as for stones
— Philip Bhosle (@PhilipBhosle1) May 5, 2020
He’s in the Otamendi category, needs a world class center half next to him to cover his mistakes, better when Kompany or Laporte was next to him.

He will never be good enough for City in my opinion.

Making this statement for 4 years, it’s time city replaces him

After 2 years with pep and no improvement, we can honestly say that’s not going to happen.

His problem is not being able to focus for 90 mins + added time.
For most of the games he can be composed and stylish but then flaps at the unexpected.
