Tottenham fans had the unusual thrill of good news today when their club took to Twitter to announce that both Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama had returned to first-team training after injury layoffs. The news is brilliant for Tottenham fans seeing as prior to the duo’s return, Harry Winks was the only fit central-midfielder.

Eric Dier came off injured during Spurs’ 1-0 loss to Manchester City back just over a week ago and what looked like being a potentially lengthy injury layoff has only turned out to be a short time on the sidelines. It now looks like Dier could be fit to face Crystal Palace on Saturday and having the England man available will be of huge benefit to Mauricio Pochettino as he won;t have to sacrifice either Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen in a deeper role.
Against PSV in the week, Poch had no choice but to line up with Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the side. Whilst on paper having that quintuplet roaming around and looking dangerous might have worked, only having Harry Winks in the deeper midfield role made a big difference. The Lilywhites had little balance to their attack and were unstable going forward, overloading the wrong areas and finding space hard to come by, which means that having Dier back will be a problem solved for Poch.
