West Ham United almost had one of Europe’s goalkeepers on their books at the London Stadium this summer.

Edouard Mendy is highly-rated in France and has out in a number of very impressive performances with Reims.

The 26-year-old has conceded just 22 goals in his 24 matches for the Ligue One outfit, however, he could have been playing his football in the Premier League.

According to a report by Le Phoceen, journalist Gerard Kancel revealed Mendy almost joined The Hammers but Reims ‘blocked’ the move as they wanted to ensure they remained in the French top-flight.

“He had almost gone to West Ham last summer, but Reims has blocked to ensure maintenance in Ligue 1,” he said.

The Verdict:

Mendy is certainly an impressive goalkeeper and one that could have been a star for West Ham if he joined in the summer.

The 26-year-old has shown that he is capable of putting in a number of impressive performances, with Reims’ current Ligue One position just one way of showing how talented the shot-stopper is.

However, West Ham added Lukasz Fabianski in the transfer window and he has been an ever-present for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season as he continues to impress for the London Stadium outfit.
