Though it proved to be in vain at the end, Michy Batshuayi was still able to find the back of the net once again for Crystal Palace in their 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Watford.
Prior to that, the Belgian had scored in Premier League games against Burnley and Leicester City, providing the sort of firepower up front that his compatriot Christian Benteke has failed to offer.
After making a strong start to life at Selhurst Park following his £27m move from Liverpool (BBC Sport) back in 2016, Benteke has since tailed off massively.
The 28-year-old has yet to score in the Premier League this season while last term, he finished the campaign with just three English top-flight goals to his name.
Meanwhile, at Liverpool, Roberto Firmino, who virtually pushed Benteke out of the club, has been in stunning form.
Following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager, Firmino was moved to Benteke’s No.9 position and has absolutely thrived there — and not just as a goalscorer.
In this Liverpool team, the Brazilian is also a bit of a maestro, helping everything to tick directly and indirectly. He connects play so well, while his ability to drop deep and take centre-backs with him enables Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to make dangerous runs in behind.
When Firmino is not scoring, he still offers his side so much, whereas Benteke is pretty much a useless figure up top when he is not firing.
These days, not even his hold-up play appears to be sufficient enough, leaving Roy Hodgson wondering what the Belgium international can actually bring to his starting XI in his current form.
With all of that in mind, for £27m, Liverpool look to have done a number on Crystal Palace with Benteke a shadow of his former self.
