The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been drinking the days away in the Transfer Tavern as they wait for their side to find the next man to lead their beloved team. They’ve been without a boss since Pedro Caixinha was sacked at the end of October, and so it’s been a pretty long wait for our resident Rangers faithful.
Fortunately, then, it appears as though their wait is nearly over. According to the Daily Record, Rangers have begun the process to replace Caixinha, with their search set to conclude imminently. A move for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is reportedly set to be made within the 24 hours, whilst Tony Docherty is also planned to follow him to Ibrox as part of the deal.
It has been an awfully long wait for Rangers, but this move is exactly what the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waiting for. They’ve had a few mixed results in recent weeks, and so they need stability and leadership, and McInnes is likely to provide that in droves.
He’s been with Aberdeen since 2013, and he has looked good in the role. They’re currently joint with Rangers on 30 points, and so whilst it will undoubtedly be a step him for the Scotsman, he won’t be out of his depth at the top end of the SPFL.
The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have put the champagne on ice as they await the arrival of their new man, and are hoping that this report rings true.
Landlord’s Verdict
The Pedro Caixinha experiment wasn’t a very successful one, and so it makes sense for Rangers to move for someone with proven experience. It cannot be doubted that, if nothing else, at least Derek McInnes has that.
Celtic have been dominant in the SPFL for the last few years, and this could be just what their Old Firm rivals need to close the gap somewhat.
