Rangers supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side ease past Maribor 3-1 on aggregate to reach the play-off round in qualification for this season’s Europa League.
Steven Gerrard’s men made routine progress in getting past Shkupi and NK Osijek in the first two qualifying rounds to set up a clash with Slovenian outfit Maribor, who they then beat 3-1 in the first leg at Ibrox last week. And the Light Blues got the job done in the Slovenian city on Thursday night with a goalless draw to book their place in the play-off round, where they will face Russian side Ufa next week.
Thus, there have been many delighted Rangers fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are growing increasingly optimistic that Gerrard can bring the good times back to the Scottish giants.
And the Rangers manager praised his side’s effort and commitment in post-match comments for Rangers TV (as per the club’s official Twitter handle), as well as accusing Maribor of having ‘no respect’ for his team over the two legs.

And it’s fair to say that Gerrard’s views post-match has stimulated quite a reaction from Gers fans on Twitter, who have expressed much love for the 38-year-old, not just for his comments on Thursday but also the overall job he has so far done at their club…
Must admit I felt a wee bit emotional watching that there . That man is a born winner and that’s exactly what we need .

Thank you Dave King for appointing Mark Allen. Thank you Mark for identifying Stevie G. Thank you for the deep pockets of the Board on backing both. Now we have a manager. Now we have a real Rangers team

This man has helped recreate something special again. Such honesty, modesty, praise for his players yet humble in how he answers every question is great to see.
