Plenty of Rangers fans were raging over their team’s defending on Sunday as they lost further ground in the Premiership title race.
Steven Gerrard’s team relinquished two points away to St Johnstone after Stevie May struck an 80th-minute equaliser to ensure a 2-2 draw between the sides at the final whistle, a result which leaves the ‘Gers 12 points adrift of league leaders Celtic. [via BBC]
The home side took an early lead after an error from centre-back Nikola Katic, who was outmuscled by Callum Hendry and sliced his attempted clearance straight to the St Johnstone man as he duly dispatched the ball to the Rangers net for the opening goal. [via BBC]
The visitors recovered to take a 2-1 lead in the second half but were made to rue another miscued clearance by Katic, who in attempting to relieve danger from a corner could only divert the ball straight to May and he promptly seized the opportunity. The Croatian’s centre-back partner Connor Goldson wasn’t entirely blameless for the goal, either, as he was beaten by May to the chase for a flick-on in the build-up to the hosts’ equaliser. Indeed, Gerrard himself bemoaned the fact that the issues have arisen again, noting how they’ve endured similar issues against the likes of Kilmarnock, Braga, Hearts and Aberdeen before.
