Young Glenn Middleton really burst onto the scene yesterday evening. The 18-year-old made his first start in competitive competition for Rangers and he marked it with two goals, an assist and the man of the match award. The fans loved watching him on the pitch and listening to him in the post-match interview as they got to see his class on and off the pitch.

Middleton was assisted for both his goals by Andy Halliday and it looks like the young winger is proving to be more than good enough to play at this level with the rest of the club’s seniors. The 4-0 win over Ayr United was enough to put the club into the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden where they’ll meet Aberdeen and that is going to be a game to look forward to for Middleton, who will be hoping he’s a guaranteed starter by that time.
Middleton has more than enough quality to make himself the number one choice for his position at Ibrox and Steven Gerrard obviously sees a lot in the youngster otherwise he wouldn’t be giving him the opportunity to start in a cup quarter-final. Next up for Middleton and co is a trip to Livingston in the Scottish Premier League and the classy winger will be desperate to start and add some more goals to his name.
