Rangers fans on Twitter rave over Gilmour after Scotland U21 display

Yesterday evening saw Scotland’s U21s host England’s U21s in a hotly contested fixture at Tynecastle Stadium. The pint-sized Three Lions came away with the win after goals from Reiss Nelson and Kieran Dowell secured them a 2-0 scoreline, although plenty of Rangers fans were impressed by former Ger and Chelsea man, Billy Gilmour.

It was never going to be an easy game for the young Scotland side. Lining up for England were some well known Premier leagues players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace, Josh Onomah of Tottenham, Dominic Solanke of Liverpool and Tammy Abraham of Chelsea. However, the Scotland side stood up and played well, despite the defeat, with young Billy Gilmour catching the eye for the supporters.

The young midfielder, born in 2001, left Rangers for Chelsea for around £500,000, big money for a lad of his age, and so far he’s shown why. His ability on and off the ball is far and away better than most players his age and after signing his first professional contract with Chelsea in the summer it looks like the future is bright for the 17-year-old, especially seeing as he’s already playing up the age groups for his country. A lot of Rangers fans would love to have Gilmour back, but they also understand that he’s meant for greater things.

Reiss Nelson a guy who’s come through at Arsenal, made some first team appearances and now playing on loan for a Bundesliga and Champions League side.

Here’s hoping Billy Gilmour can eventually provide a similar level to this Scotland team.
