Rangers may have blitzed Hibernian on Sunday afternoon in their emphatic 6-1 win at Ibrox, however fans still found time to wax lyrical about one of their men that did not get himself on the scoresheet.
Jermain Defoe bagged himself a hat-trick before Alfredo Morelos (who hit a quick-fire brace from the substitutes bench) and Sheyi Ojo got in the act (Sky Sports).
The win was a vast improvement on their away performance in last weekend’s victory over Kilmarnock and kept Steven Gerrard’s side level with Old Firm rivals Celtic after two games in the Scottish Premiership.
One man that also seemed to put in a better performance this weekend was Gers’ captain James Tavernier, as noted by Rangers News.
Tavernier is highly regarded by Gerrard and his management team at Ibrox as well, as he recently revealed that he had been involved in helping the club set up some fresh strict rules for the current crop of stars ahead of the upcoming campaign (Daily Express).
The defender was unfortunate that he did not get on the scoresheet himself with one or two decent efforts and the fansite believe he is back to his best after suffering a blip.
They wrote: “A really impressive shift from the captain again and could have had a goal or two of his own. Looks to be over his early-season blip and putting in the sort of performances we’ve come to expect.”
And, it seems fans were just as delighted with his performance at Ibrox on Sunday as many of them flocked to Twitter to share their immediate reactions following the final whistle.
Some of them highlighted how ‘magnificent’ he was during the game whilst others believed he was ‘outstanding’.
Here are just some of their reactions…
Too many individual performances to highlight but we are now seeing a proper Rangers captain on the pitch. Once again James Tavernier was leading by example and urging his players on. Captain fantastic @James_Tavernier

Thought the only thing tav could’ve have improved on today was consistency in crosses, but other than that he was outstanding

Started well and looked devastating within the first 25/30 then took the foot off the gas and let them back in! Second half was much better with jack, jones and Tavernier excellent and Defoe the game changer and showing why we took him
