Glasgow Rangers have received a potential injury blow as Borna Barisic failed to make the Croatia squad for their game against Switzerland.
Gerrard in Barisic sweat
Barisic was called up by his country but he was not included in the 23-man squad for the 2-1 victory on Wednesday. The 27-year-old was forced off in Rangers’ last match against Ross County but still travelled to represent the Balkan state.
Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic did not elaborate on the injury and Rangers must now wait to see if he faces Sweden or France in the coming days.
Potential Old Firm bow for Bassey
This is the last thing Steven Gerrard will have wanted ahead of the first Old Firm derby of the season on 17 October. The £3.6m-valued left-back (as per Transfermarkt) has been in fantastic form so far this campaign, already racking up six assists in 11 matches. He provides a true attacking outlet and he would be a huge miss if he were unavailable.
Would you be happy to see Bassey start vs Celtic?
His absence, though, would likely see Calvin Bassey play in his first match against Celtic. The 20-year-old has made just one start so far for Rangers but he had a good game against Motherwell. Whilst he was unable to provide the same attacking threat as Barisic, he was solid defensively, managing three tackles and prevailing in seven of his 13 duels. The Croatian would leave big shoes fill if he is ruled out, but that could see Bassey win the supporters’ hearts if he steps up.
