Glasgow Rangers legend Ally McCoist says that Ibrox would be the perfect place for Jack Wilshere to continue his football.
Wilshere would shine under Gerrard
The Gers have been heavily linked with a move for the former Arsenal midfielder ever since his contract was terminated at West Ham. As it stands, he is still a free agent, with it being suggested that he would be eager to move abroad.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun, McCoist believes the 54-time Scottish champions would be a great place for Wilshere to play his football – just like it was for Paul Gascoigne. He said:
“I hate to say this but, at 28, it looks as if his career could pass him by and Jack will be remembered as one of those guys with amazing talent who couldn’t fulfil his potential in terms of the number of games he played.
“I’d hate to see that happen to someone with Jack Wilshere’s exceptional talent.”
“Clearly Jack has suffered from injuries. Well few people in the game know more about the demands of being a top midfielder than Steven Gerrard and his No.2 Gary McAllister.
“I’m sure Jack would benefit, as Jermain Defoe has done, from having his games handpicked without the pressure of having to play three games a week.
“He says he fancies a move to Italy’s Serie A or Spain’s La Liga and I totally get that. But would he be going to a club capable of winning trophies?
“Gazza enjoyed some of his best years of his career with Rangers, so why not Jack Wilshere? We’d have him in two minutes because the boy can play and Ibrox is the perfect arena for him to parade his skills.”
Still got plenty to give
Injuries have been an issue for Wilshere throughout his career, but he still has plenty to offer. With 198 appearances for Arsenal, he clearly knows what it takes to play at the highest level, and he also has 34 caps for England to his name.
Would you like to sign Jack Wilshere?
As McCoist says, Gascoigne enjoyed his spell north of the border with the Gers, scoring more than 30 goals across three years at the club. If Wilshere could leave a similar kind of legacy if he were to play for the Gers, he would be an amazing signing.
