Rangers: Light Blues must ‘make a decision’ on Alfredo Morelos -Follow up

Glasgow Rangers will have to ‘make a decision’ regarding the future of Alfredo Morelos in January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

The Colombian’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning that the Premiership giants either cash in soon or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The Light Blues’ managing director Stewart Robertson has revealed that the 26-year-old, along with team-mate Ryan Kent, are both in discussions over fresh terms at the club, but Morelos shouldn’t be short of suitors if he refuses to put pen to paper in Glasgow.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Asked by GiveMeSport whether Rangers should consider entering the market to find a replacement for Morelos in the New Year, Jones replied: “Yeah, I think so. It looks like this might be the time to finally make a decision on Morelos and actually move him on.

“The speculation around him has been going on for so long, it doesn’t seem to have helped anyone does it.”

The Verdict: Time to cash in

Morelos has been labelled a ‘machine’ by Jacek Kulig, and despite only making one league start this season, the 26-year-old has long since proven the impact that he can have in the final third, which is why Rangers should cash in soon rather than letting him walk away for nothing next summer.

The Colombian has scored three goals and provided one assist in 12 appearances this season and is currently averaging 1.4 shots per game, with this kind of form off the bench likely to increase his asking price (WhoScored).

Rangers fans! Do you know how many Gers players are going to the 2022 World Cup?

Since coming to Ibrox in 2017, he has written himself into Rangers’ record book as their all-time leading scorer in Europe, his overall tally of 115 goals for the club illustrating that his time in Glasgow has been a roaring success.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will find it unfortunate that this is how Morelos’ spell could come to an end, but with the 26-year-old’s attitude not always being the best, it may be a blessing in disguise in the long term to offload him in January.
