Rangers loanee Amad Diallo is unlikely to spend more time at Ibrox after his temporary spell, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says.

The lowdown

Diallo joined Manchester United more than a year ago but opportunities have been limited so far.

He's only made nine appearances for their senior side, and six of those have come from the bench.

Shortly before the end of the January transfer window, Rangers agreed a deal to take him on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old is valued at £16.2million by Transfermarkt and his United contract still has nearly three and a half years to run.

The latest

Romano pointed out that the Red Devils invested a lot of money in Diallo and says they are excited about what he could become.

"I think Amad Diallo's future is in Manchester to be honest, they paid a lot of money for him," he told Football Scotland.

"It was 23million euros plus big, huge bonuses to arrive at potentially around 35-40million euros for Atalanta.

"They paid a lot of money but they are super happy with the potential of this boy, they are convinced he could be a top top player."

He added that Ibrox is a 'perfect' place for the youngster to develop in the meantime.

"Rangnick wanted to send him on loan for an opportunity to play and I think Rangers just have to try and enjoy the boy, to help the player," he said.

"The player is so happy in Glasgow and they're super happy with him so it's a perfect match.

"Let's see in the future, I'm sure they'll do their best for Amad, he'll do his best for Rangers.

"I've known him for a long time since he was in Italy and he's always been super serious and professional.

"But for Manchester United he'll be a part of the project."

The verdict

Rangers may mind not losing Diallo in the summer if he's played a key role in a successful title defence.

Retaining the Scottish Premiership could net the Gers a whopping £35million through Champions League group stage qualification.

Can Diallo be a difference-maker in the battle with Celtic? Well, he certainly hit the ground running, scoring just five minutes into his debut against Ross County.

But he was hooked at half time in the Old Firm, having lost five of his six duels and conceding possession 12 times during the first 45 minutes (via SofaScore).

And Van Bronckhorst proceeded to bench the Ivorian for the games against Hearts and Hibs. The jury is still well and truly out.

In other news, this man 'will be involved' against Alloa.
