Loads of Rangers fans have been left fuming at a tweet from Scottish football expert Ewan Murray after their side’s 1-0 win over Hibernian.
As per his tweet, he felt that Hibs should have been awarded a penalty against Steven Gerrard’s team, which, if converted, would have levelled the scores up should it have been given by the referee and subsequently converted.
Instead, the goal from Ianis Hagi just after the half an hour mark in the first half was enough to give the SPFL league leaders all three points at Ibrox, thus pushing them closer to the Scottish Premiership title.
Should Hagi start for Rangers?
The Gers now face an away trip to St. Mirren before a crucial game against their bitter rivals Celtic in the New Year, and a win in that match could all but guarantee that they’ll be bringing the trophy back their way.
Rangers fan reaction to Murray tweet
These RFC supporters fumed on Twitter upon reading the suggestion by Murray that they should have had a penalty given against them:
“There was no contact between Hagi & Hibs player therefore not a penalty, if ref had thought it dangerous play then it’s a indirect free kick. Hibs player should have been booked for simulation. You should know the rules!”
“A decent journalist would be asking why he fell clutching his face but no, in Scotland the jokers think its a penalty I truly despair”
“Amazed the amount of journos and pundits that don’t know the rules, if there had been contact, which there wasn’t, it would have been an indirect free kick inside the box.”
“Ewan, given that writing about football is literally your occupation, would it be a big ask for you to be familiar with the laws of the game? Just a thought.”
“Rangers should also have had a penalty. In fact Rangers’ claim was far stronger. Media focus has been embarrassing this week.”
“He fouled Hagi then pretended he was kicked in the face when there was zero contact. Good one Ewan. Him and Nisbet were throwing themselves to the ground for the full 90.”
