Rangers: Gerrard confirms Scott Arfield absence

Steven Gerrard has revealed that Scott Arfield will be unavailable for Glasgow Rangers’ Old Firm clash on Saturday.
Arfield out
Arfield was forced off with an injury during the Gers’ 1-0 win over Hibernian on Boxing Day. That saw him miss the game against St. Mirren as well.
The Ibrox outfit face Celtic on Saturday, and speaking ahead of the huge match, Gerrard has revealed that Arfield is out. He said:
“The scan came back and we are just waiting on a few more opinions on it.
“We’ve had one opinion on it and he will obviously be missing in the short term. He will definitely be missing for a few weeks, that’s for sure.
“But in terms of the exact date or time, it’s very difficult to say right now. He will certainly miss the next two or three fixtures.”
Big blow
The Canada international has been a hugely important player for Rangers so far this campaign. In 20 matches in the Premiership, he has four goals and five assists, and it is down to performances like his that Gerrard’s side lead the Scottish Premiership by 16 points, albeit having played three more games than second-placed Celtic.
Will Rangers beat Celtic?
Yes

No

Gerrard has previously said that Arfield “epitomises” what he wants from his team, which underlines his importance to the squad. With Ryan Jack also set to be missing, the boss is dangerously thin on midfield depth, so any more issues to the likes of Glen Kamara or Joe Aribo could be devastating.
In other news, this Gers ace is set for a move south of the border.
