Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has told Football Insider that he believes Steven Gerrard will have had words with Alfredo Morelos following his recent tantrum against Aberdeen.
Morelos under fire again
Everyone should have been delighted against the Dons from an Ibrox perspective. The Gers prevailed 4-0, extending their lead at the top of the table to 11 points, and they remain unbeaten in 21 games in all competitions.
Morelos, though, was visibly frustrated when he was replaced, throwing his gloves onto the floor and looking particularly angry in the stands. Campbell believes Gerrard will not be happy with the behaviour of his star forward. He said:
“Rangers are battering teams and Morelos wants to get goals.
“It is the way he did it that is wrong.
“He has a fiery character, a fiery temper and he finds it very difficult to curb it.
“I like Morelos. I think he is a fantastic player but doing stuff like that in front of everyone does not bode well. It creates more questions for the manager.
“I am sure Gerrard has had words with him and Morelos has probably said, ‘I do not know why I did it.’ I am sure they have made up by now.”
From a talent point of view, there is no doubting Morelos. With 84 goals in 155 games for the 54-time Scottish champions, he has been lethal in front of goal since signing in 2017, and he has also already beaten Ally McCoist’s record for the most goals for the Gers in European competition.
Will Morelos leave Ibrox before next season?
However, his attitude remains an issue. He already has seven red cards to his name for the club, and incidents such as these appear to pop up every now and again. He was heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox during the summer, with him reportedly agreeing personal terms with Lille. Whether he is frustrated that he is still with the Gers is unknown, but Gerrard cannot afford to let the Colombia international disrupt his dressing room this term.
In other news, Jordan Campbell slammed this man against Aberdeen.
