Glasgow Rangers fans are disgusted at comments from Irvine Welsh, who went way over the top when ranting about Alfredo Morelos during Wednesday’s match.
The Gers defeated Hibernian 1-0 on Wednesday to move 23 points clear at the top of the Premiership table (BBC). Welsh, who is a Hibernian fan, was a pundit for Hibernian TV during the match, and he was clearly angry with Morelos at half-time after the Colombia international should arguably have been sent off for a stamp on an opponent.
Whilst the frustration with the decision was understandable, his comments cannot be condoned. He branded (Hibernian TV via The Scottish Sun) Morelos as “sticky bun”, claimed the red card would have been shown to other players, before quite bizarrely suggesting the striker should be “consumed by seagulls”.
Should Irvine Welsh apologise?
Videos of what he said were shared on Twitter, and the Rangers supporters were absolutely disgusted by what he uttered. They took to the social media platform to share their rage.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about Welsh below
“That sounds extremely like a hate crime being committed. It also sounds like a sectarian crime being committed. Is @IrvineWelsh above the law? Asking on behalf of all decent minded people.”
“Comments made by Irvine Welsh on Hibs TV yesterday(nabbed from Rangers News). Nothing short of disgusting”
“What an absolutely abhorrent individual”
“Disgusting comment to make.”
“That is shocking”
