According to Edinburgh Live, the injury to Glasgow Rangers’ Jermain Defoe could see Gers rekindle their interest in Florian Kamberi.
The Gers have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who spent the second half of the previous term on loan at Ibrox.
It looked as if their interest had cooled, but this latest report says the Gers could now go back in for the striker.
Whilst Steven Gerrard’s need for a new centre-forward is quite clear following the injury to Defoe – the boss even admitted that the issue will likely force him to delve into the transfer market – Kamberi is far from a like-for-like replacement for the 37-year-old.
For example, Defoe managed 17 goals in all competitions last term – the Hibernian man, meanwhile, managed one strike in nine games during his spell in Glasgow. That is not exactly the kind of form the Gers are looking for, or will need, if they are to dethrone Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Would you like to sign Kamberi permanently?
With so little time before the first match of the campaign on August 1st, Gerrard needs to make his move quickly – that, though, doesn’t mean he needs to get desperate. As such, he should avoid making a move for the £630,000-valued man – as per Transfermarkt.
