Rangers could be inflicted with a seismic blow in their pursuit of Colombian striker Juan Alegria.
Alegria off the cards?
Dubbed as the next Alfredo Morelos, the Gers were reported to be close to capturing the 18-year-old as talks were “very close” and “well advanced” (via Antena2).
Alegria plays his football for the Finnish side FC Honka after being promoted from the reserve side, following his four goals from four appearances (TransferMarkt).
According to the Daily Record, Steven Gerrard’s plans could be scuppered due to ongoing Brexit negotiations with the European Union and the Home Office, which could prevent UK clubs from signing young foreign players.
The report added that British football bodies have already put detailed proposals in place to bypass this potential barrier for teams looking to bring in talent from abroad, with the decision expected to be made in Westminister before the end of the month.
Transfer Tavern Take
Rangers will not be the only club affected by this and will send shockwaves across the British Isles and football as a whole.
While this will be a serious blow, Gerrard’s scouting team will have been fully aware that this situation could have come about, and may well have other alternatives available to them.
The proceedings are completely out of their control. The focus should be on the pitch for the time being until a resolution is found.
In other news, Rangers urged to sign bit-part ‘big-game player’ during January to maintain title charge.
