Rangers: Barrie delivers assessment on Malik Tillman

Rangers' Malik Tillman celebrates scoring their third goal

Journalist Joshua Barrie has urged Rangers to sign Malik Tillman from parent club Bayern Munich.

The Lowdown: Shining on loan

The American joined the Scottish Premiership giants last summer on loan from the Bundesliga outfit, and his stint with the Gers runs out at the end of the season – but the Ibrox club have the option to buy him in the summer.

Tillman has five goals and four assists from 21 league appearances so far this season, with his last goal for Michael Beale’s side coming against Dundee United at the start of the month.

Based on Sofascore’s average league ratings, Tillman ranks in the top ten best-performing Rangers players from the 2022/23 campaign so far, but it remains to be seen what his future holds.

The Latest: Barrie wants Tillman signed

Barrie believes that the Gers should look to sign him on a permanent deal when speaking on Monday’s edition of The Rangers Review, claiming that Beale could make a lot of money from Tillman if they sold him in the future.

He stated: “He’s so good. 20 years old, there’s not been a better player in the squad this season. I don’t understand the argument that you shouldn’t buy him. I don’t think you’re going to get a better player for that money.

“So if anyone thinks that Rangers still shouldn’t buy Tillman, there might be some good arguments against it. I think you’ll make a lot of money on him in the future as well.”

The Verdict: A promising talent

We believe that Beale should do all he can to bring Tillman in on a permanent basis, as he’s a promising talent and has the potential to have a bright future ahead of him.

It would seem that the Rangers boss is in agreement. When speaking to BBC Sport, he labelled the American as a ‘fantastic talent’ and the ‘exact type of player that we want at this football club’.

Tillman has been with Bayern from a very young age, with his time at the German outfit dating back to his youth days in 2015.

He’ll have been exposed to some of the best coaching in the world, so whilst he may not potentially go on to be a star for the Bundesliga side, he would be a great hand for Rangers in the long term.

Beale could get plenty of football out of Tillman, who is far from his prime years and therefore offers plenty of potential resale value. So in our view, a permanent transfer would be a win-win for Rangers, as they could get some quality campaigns out of him and then potentially sell him later on for a high price tag if they are unable to retain his services further down the line.
