For football neutrals up and down the country, they will undoubtedly continue to enjoy the ongoing omnishambles, both on and off the pitch, that effects Old Trafford outfit Manchester United. Red Devil’s fans themselves will be enjoying the on pitch action that the month of October has given them and they will be desperately hoping that a corner had now been turned under manager Ruben Amorim.
Having opened the month with a 2-0 victory over in form newly promoted side Sunderland, they backed that up by piling the pressure on reigning Champions Liverpool with a 2-1 win, and last weekend they took a very comprehensive 4-2 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion to register three back to back victories and lift themselves into the heady heights of sixth place in the top flight table and fans who enjoy online football betting, few thought that this would be the case given all of their summer struggles.
As ever though, neutrals will be expecting more fallout in the press as we head towards the January transfer window as there are still expensively assembled players on their books that have no future at the club and can be expected to leave. But there is a big loan issue building up at the club as it is perfectly plausible that some players will just return at the end of the season and the whole cycle of trying to move them on will begin again next summer.
One player who will be hoping that this does not happen to them again would be England international striker Marcus Rashford. Given all his issues at Old Trafford in recent years and everything that has been aired publicly in the media, he started to show the form we all know that he is capable of during his loan spell out with Aston Villa in the second half of last season, and this summer he got the move that he had been craving by making the switch to Camp Nou and Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.
It was a loan to buy arrangement with the option set at £28 million which reflects how desperately they want the 27 year old out of the club, and the fact that he remains under contract with them until the summer of 2028.
Having begun to impress out in Spain, the player is making no secret of the fact that he is pretty desperate for Barcelona to take up the clause because he is loving life at the club and wants to stay. Last Tuesday he took his goal tally to five in 12 games with a brace against Olympiakos in the Champions League and at the weekend he got to experience his first El Classico as Barca made the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu to face fellow Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Rashford did not pick up the win as they fell to a 2-1 defeat on the day but the 66 capped England star did help himself to an assist for Fermin Lopez’s initial leveller in the game.
“People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and I’m enjoying everything.”
A change certainly benefited him at Villa Park under Unai Emery and it seems his Barcelona change is benefiting him even more.
