Loads of Manchester United fans have reacted to John Cross’s stunning revelation that Harry Maguire has asked the entire squad to donate 30% of their wages to charity.
Writing in an exclusive for The Mirror, the chief football writer reports the club captain has urged his fellow teammates to make the generous pledge to Manchester hospitals in light of recent events. Cross notes Maguire held talks with chief executive Ed Woodward to devise a strategy for the stars to give back to their local communities.
The Red Devils do not want the team to take a hefty pay cut, although they are keen to make a joint contribution to any charitable initiative.
After arriving at Old Trafford from Leicester City for a whopping £78.3m last summer, the England international has led from the back, putting in a string of defensive shifts, making 1.9 interceptions per game, and averaging 4.5 clearances in the English top-flight this season (via WhoScored).

United’s latest scheme comes after Health Minister Matt Hancock blasted Premier League players for “not doing their bit” to help out financially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The journalist dismissed the “ridiculous stereotype” and suggested lots of anonymous footballers have been making huge donations behind the scenes.
Popular fan site UtdReport shared Cross’s update on Twitter, prompting plenty of reactions from the fan base. Several supporters praised Maguire’s “leadership,” acknowledging the defender is a “class act.”
