Liverpool: Fans react to club U-turn on furloughing staff

Liverpool’s decision to put a number of their staff on furlough whilst taking advantage of the government’s scheme was met with widespread criticism, even from Reds supporters themselves.

The Anfield outfit are the European champions are one of the richest clubs on the planet, with no less than 12 players earning £100,000 a week or above, yet they chose to accept money from the British tax-payer to cover 80% of the wages of some non-playing staff.

The outcry was very public, and it seems that those in the places of power have recognised the error of their ways – they have now confirmed that they will pay their workers in full themselves.

However, despite the U-turn, a number of fans are far from happy with their failure to come to this decision in the first place, and they have been scathing in their judgement. Some have even called for FSG to leave the club, whilst one supporter labelled the original decision as ‘embarrassing‘.
