Liverpool: Fans react to Riyad Mahrez’s comments

Mohamed Salah has been a rather stunning signing for Liverpool.

The Egypt international made the switch to Anfield from AS Roma in 2017 for a fee of £34m, and there will likely have been many who will have had reservations about the deal – after all, here was a player who had already failed to make the grade at a Premier League club, having been sold to Roma by Chelsea.

However, there will be no-one from the red side of Merseyside who will be regretting the 27-year-old joining them. In 144 appearances so far for the Reds, Salah has scored 91 goals, winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot on two ocassions. Not only that, he has also won the PFA Player of the Year award and has twice finished in the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or.

Riyad Mahrez, though, has revealed that it could have been him who signed for Liverpool instead of Salah. He said that the Reds were interested in signing the £43.2m-valued winger – as per Transfermarkt – before he made the switch to Manchester City from Leicester, but the signing of Salah ended their pursuit (Instagram via Goal.com)
