The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few hours drowning their sorrows after their side crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Though the Blues took the lead, Arsenal came back and a poor defensive display from Antonio Conte’s side led Arsene Wenger’s men to a 2-1 win.
The scoreline wasn’t the only negative for Chelsea, though, with midfielder Willian also suffering an injury during the game. He was forced off and replaced by Ross Barkley, with many in the Transfer Tavern fearing a long-term layoff for the Brazilian.
Fortunately, though, Antonio Conte has since revealed – via Ben Dinnery on Twitter – that he is hopeful that the injury isn’t too bad. Willian reportedly described the injury as not ‘serious’, perhaps suggesting that he could be back sooner, rather than later.
Willian injury nothing major. "I spoke with the player," confirmed Conte. "He said he felt a bit of a problem in his hamstring, but he doesn’t think it is serious. I hope that this feeling, sensation is right." #CFC
Unlikely to feature this weekend IMO. AC presser tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/qKPkmFAb29

For what it’s worth, fitness expert Dinnery did note that a role this weekend against Newcastle was unlikely in his opinion.
His absence really cost the Blues, with Antonio Conte’s men lacking attacking efficiency without the Brazilian. Ross Barkley failed to deliver on his first Chelsea appearance, leaving much to be desired with his offensive display.
Antonio Conte will be hoping that Willian is back as soon as possible, as the Brazilian is clearly crucial for the Italian boss.
Landlord’s Verdict
Willian’s absence would be a huge blow for Chelsea, so the prospect of a return in the near future will come as a significant boost for Antonio Conte.
He’ll likely have been sweating during the game for fear of losing him for an extended period of time. With big games on the horizon, he’ll be glad that Willian won’t be out for too long.
