Report hints at problem between Abramovich and Conte despite Chelsea success

Life really is rather sweet for the Chelsea fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve watched their side storm to the top of the Premier League and pass through the semi-finals of the FA Cup under Antonio Conte.

Despite a relatively rocky start, the Italian has endeared himself as the darling of west London by leading the Blues back up to the summit of English football and the punters in the bar can’t quite believe his work in turning Jose Mourinho’s flops to champions elect.

So, with that in mind, reports emanating out of Italy have caused major concern amongst our drinkers from SW6. According to Corriere della Sera (via the Press Reader), Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich has already broken a promise to the former Juventus and Italy coach by not opening his chequebook over the course of the January transfer window.

Conte reportedly wants a strong team to challenge in the Champions League – something claimed by Duncan Castles of late – and this report suggests the 47-year-old will leave if he is not backed with funds. To be fair, the Chelsea supporters here believe Abramovich will splash the cash, having done so rather a lot over the course of his time controlling the club.

Will Conte be with Chelsea next season? Let us know below…
