Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping the latest setback does not affect their chances of confirming a new manager in the very near future.
Marcelo Bielsa has been named as a strong favourite to take the vacant role at Elland Road following the departure of Paul Heckingbottom, and has been thought to have been in discussions about a possible deal.
However, according to a report in The Yorkshire Evening Post, it looks as though the Argentine manager is not set to get the first thing he wants, should he join the Whites this summer.
And that’s because the media outlet are reporting that Leeds have not been able to push their pre-season a week forward, something that Bielsa had asked for, due to the pending appointment of the new coach.
The former Argentina and Chile international manager had asked the club to bring it forward so he could get a longer look at his side and they could have a lengthier time to learn his methods and system, yet Leeds will now stick to their original timetable.
Landlord’s Verdict: The setback would not have been helpful to the team, yet there is a sense of positivity within the locals that Bielsa will be in charge when the first team does finally return back to training.
There was concern that a prolonged pre-season could have negative side-effects on the players, rather than the positive ones intended – however, it does not look like those will need to be worried about now.
