Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting Marcelo Bielsa to make a number of additions in the coming weeks as they look to strengthen their side.
The newly-appointed manager, who was considered a coup by many in the bar, is keen on signing a couple of players to help with his aims of taking the club back to the Premier League.
The Whites, who have struggled since being in the Championship, had another disappointing campaign last season and Bielsa is keen to improve the areas of the squad that he deems necessary to ensure they have a chance of playing top-flight football next year.
With that, one area of the field the former Argentina and Uruguay manager is looking at is the goalkeeper position. He has already let Felix Wiedwald depart the club after his poor debut season and could be about to let Andy Lonergan go as well.
The Whites are considering to end the 34-year-old’s current deal a year earlier as Bielsa does not have any plans for him in his first-team squad, despite only having Bailey Peacock-Farrell as his only senior goalkeeper.
Landlord’s Verdict
The Leeds fans in the Tavern will not be too disappointed to see Lonergan go this summer, however, with no other ‘keeper than Peacock-Farrell in the squad currently, it would come as a surprise to let him go by cancelling his contract.
The 34-year-old struggled during his second spell at Elland Road and the locals will want to see a new ‘keeper brought in but will be hoping that the club waits until they do find one before they release him.
