Liverpool extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches last night after a 3-0 victory over Stoke City at the Bet365 stadium. The victory was not enough to boost Liverpool into a top-four position, but they remain within touching distance of their top-four rivals with just 2 points separating them from fourth-placed Arsenal.
So far this season, off the field discussion regarding a number of potential comings and goings at the club has persisted in the media.
The Reds central-midfielder Emre Can has never been too far away from the aforementioned discussions, and reports emerging from Calciomercarto have added another layer to the on-going speculation.
The Italian media outlet published quotes from the German national side’s manager Oliver Bierhoff in which he claimed Can was ‘60-80%‘ likely to move to Serie A at the end of the season.
Bierhoff’s admission should finally convince Jurgen Klopp to give Marko Grujic an opportunity in the first-team squad.
The 21-year-old Serbian international has been frozen out of Liverpool’s first-team squad since his move from Red Star Belgrade in June 2016.
With Can looking increasingly likely to pursue his footballing career away from Merseyside, surely it is about time Klopp began preparing for the future by increasing Grujic’s exposure to the first-team.
So far this season, Grujic has played just 13 minutes of Premier League football, despite the fact that those above him in the pecking order have yet to thoroughly justify their position in the first-team.
With Henderson and Wiljnaldum struggling to find their best form and Can’s departure looking increasingly inevitable, Klopp should look forward to a future without Can and hand Grujic an opportunity to prove himself in the near-future.
