Manchester United fans here in the Tavern grow in excitement following news of a return for the king of Old Trafford. United have enjoyed a fairly decent start to the season, having witnessed a poor Jose Mourinho first year in charge. With the dominant Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City becoming an unstoppable force, they’re going to need to be at the pinnacle of their game.
An air of excitement could be felt all around the Red half of Manchester, with the recent return to full-fitness of King Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his lengthy spell out on the sidelines. That couldn’t have come at a better time for Mourinho and his side, after the suggestion star striker Romelu Lukaku could face a 3 game ban due to the alleged sighting of two kick-outs at Brighton’s Gaetan Bong.
Though the Belgian ultimately got away with it, it did raise an interesting question.
The Landlord here in the Tavern recently raised a poll for supporters to vote on the matter of whether United would even miss the £75m man, following Ibra’s return. Indeed, that resulted in an impressive response of 63% of United fans unmoved by any sanction to Lukaku, now that Ibrahimovic has returned.
This didn’t pose as any great surprise, after-all the Belgian has struggled to find his shooting boots in recent times, now lengthening his goal-scoring struggles to 1 goal in 10 games. So, allowing him time to rethink and gather his thoughts could be crucial for the striker.
Now with their 28 goal Swede back in the frame, offering his strength, aerial abilities and devastating finishing, a saviour may just have been resurrected.
United have been lacking that goal-scoring touch in recent games, so in having the long-awaited return of their superstar striker, a change up top may just solve those problems.
Red Devils, thoughts?
