Liverpool: Fans discuss Robbie Keane

Robbie Keane is a Premier League legend, but it never really worked out for him during his time at Liverpool.

Throughout his career in England’s top flight, he scored 125 goals, being one of only 28 players to bag more than a century. It was with Tottenham where he was his most prolific, scoring 121 in 302 matches in all competitions, and it was his form during his first spell at White Hart Lane that persuaded the Reds to part with £19m to take him to Anfield.

However, it never really worked out for him on Merseyside. He would end up making just 28 appearances for the club, scoring seven times in the process. Incredibly, he lasted just six months before returning to the Lilywhites in February 2009.

Keane, though, says that it didn’t work out as Rafael Benitez went back on his word. He told the The Football Show (via The Liverpool Echo): “When I went there [ Liverpool ] I was told myself and Torres [would start] and Stevie would drop into the midfield but obviously as it went on I think Rafa liked Stevie playing that no.10.”
