Our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern has been a great admirer of Ronald Koeman since his arrival in England, having made the best of the situation at Southampton and overachieving from what most expected.

Koeman is excelling at Goodison Park and seems to be the man to guide the Merseyside outfit forward.

The Toffees had a torrid time the last two seasons domestically under Roberto Martinez and now finally they look back to their best, and look as though they may well push the top four or five once again, rather than dabbling in the middle of the table.

Koeman has brought joy to the fans at Goodison Park, and they sit pretty in the league at the moment and we feel that consistency will be a key factor in ensuring that the blue half of Merseyside maintain their league position.

So with that, here are the THREE players we feel Koeman should include week in, week out to ensure a great season…..

Idrissa Gueye

The little midfielder as been by far one of the best bits of business by a side this summer!

He went unnoticed in a dismal Aston Villa side last year, however this season he’s been a revelation in the middle of the park for Everton and he will be a key factor in any success they have this year, and his partnership with Barry is a great mix of young and experience,

Romelu Lukaku

This is an obvious choice, but for Everton to be a successful side this guy has to be in the team and scoring goals.

The striker lost his way under Martinez near the end of last term, but looks back at his best under Koeman.

Keeping him from the likes of Juventus or Chelsea this summer was like a signing in itself for Everton, and we here at the Tavern feel that the gaffer had a big part to say in keeping him at the club.

Maarten Stekelenburg

The go to guy for Koeman, he’s a player that the boss loves to sign and we can see why!

He is back to the Stekelenburg of old and his days at Ajax.

The experienced shot stopper has been a great asset to the side since his arrival from Fulham.

Last year for some reason, Martinez favoured Robles over the experienced Howard and it didn’t really pay off the Spanish goalkeeper, often making mistakes leading to goals being conceded.

It looks like Koeman has learnt from Martinez mistakes.
