Whilst it’s true that Tottenham haven’t been given enough credit for the way they’ve gone about their business this season, Ryan Mason’s recent claims that they can win the Premier League are going a bit far. The ex-England and Tottenham man claimed that his former side can win the title this year, as they currently sit six points off of leaders Liverpool.

With only six points separating Tottenham and Liverpool after 16 games, it’s not impossible that the Lilywhites could win the Premier League this season. When you look at the factors it definitely points to Spurs finishing strongly. Of the club’s 16 Premier League games this season, only six have been at home, meaning they’ll have a long run of home games at the end of the season whilst their rivals travel across the country.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will also have the benefit of a new stadium to move into in the new year would aid their progress. Then you factor in that January signings are a must at the club after their barren summer and all of a sudden Mason’s claims make a little bit more sense, even if both Liverpool and Manchester City look far too strong for one of them to not end up with the title. No one is claiming Mason is right, but his prediction isn’t as ludicrous as some fans are making out.

We would need to hit the ground running at the new stadium that may not happen but we’d also need Liverpool and Man City to have a major wobble. The pressure on Liverpool will be more given it’s been so long. Can’t see City screwing it up though.

The Lilywhites likely won’t win the Premier League, but to write them off with 22 games left to play as they sit just six points off the top would be just ridiculous.
