Rangers: Fans were not happy with Jon Flanagan’s performance despite victory

Rangers may have eased past FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, but fans were far from happy with what they saw from Jon Flanagan in their second-leg win on Thursday evening.

Steven Gerrard’s side coasted to a 7-3 aggregate victory after putting the Danes to the sword with a comfortable 3-1 winning performance at Ibrox and will meet Legia Warsaw in the next stage of the competition.

Alfredo Morelos grabbed a brace with Sheyi Ojo bagging one in between, but an error by Flanagan meant Evander could grab the visitors a consolation goal with just under 20 minutes to go.

The 26-year-old was playing in his first match of the current campaign this season (Transfermarkt) – having made 30 appearances last season –  after Borna Barisic was left out of the squad for the second game in a row. Football Scotland had questioned the Croatia international’s position in the Rangers side following their 6-1 thumping of Hibernian last weekend.

Rangers News are of the feeling that Flanagan may have cemented his place as Gerrard’s first-choice left-back and felt that he had a rather reasonable outing on Thursday night in their player ratings.

Giving him a six, they wrote: “The former Liverpool man looks to have nailed himself as first-choice at left-back and played well enough without ever excelling. Mistake led to Midtjylland’s goal.”

However, it would appear fans were far from sharing the same opinion as many took to Twitter to slam him for his performance against the Danish outfit.

Plenty of them felt the ex-Liverpool defender was not good enough to play for them and were not convinced about his ability.

Here are just some of their reactions to Flanagan’s performance on Thursday…
