Manchester United’s push for the Champions League places enjoyed a boost at the weekend as they beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

However, Red Devils fans here in the pub are becoming more and more frustrated with the fact that the other teams around them are still winning and so it’s clear a big summer overhaul is necessary if United are going to get anywhere near the top of the table next season.

But away from the troubles United have suffered this time out, we’ve seen some of the world’s best grace the Old Trafford pitch over the years, with some leaving earlier than would have been liked.

So with that in mind and after a long consultation with our landlord, whose not afraid to get his point of view across at all, here’s the three players the club were far too quick to sell…

Cristiano Ronaldo

He’s arguably the world’s best player and one man United fans would have loved to have stayed at the club is Cristiano Ronaldo.

One of Fergie’s best ever signings, he brought a then very young-looking Ronaldo to the world stage, having signed him from Sporting Lisbon when he was younger.

He then made the big-money move to Real Madrid but if you ask any United fan here in the pub who they’d have liked to have seen stay at Old Trafford from the past ten years, you can bet on a fair few of them saying Ronaldo.

Nemanja Vidic

Another one of the best players to have played at Old Trafford during Fergie’s reign at the club, Nemanja Vidic was the feared Serbian defender whom attackers hated playing against, especially during trips to Manchester.

He was an absolute rock at the back for United and you could bet a fair bit of money that he wasn’t going to be beaten in the air during most games throughout a season.

He moved to Inter Milan after he made the move from Old Trafford but he’s now retired from the game.

Javier Hernandez

Whilst this season hasn’t been Chicharito’s most prolific, he’s one of the most well-liked players from the past few years and he bagged plenty of goals during his time at Old Trafford.

Known as the “little pea”, he’s a pacy forward who now plays in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen. But if you asked United fans whether they’d take him back after this poor season, many of them would still say yes.
